Something Greater: Hope
November 28, 2021
Candle of Hope
Isaiah 9:6-7
The entire message of the O.T. was that one day, God would send the Messiah, the promise fulfilled from Gen. 3:15 (Msg)
Every prophet: every leader of Israel believed that one day, the Son of Man would come.
Note: Hebrews 11:36-12:1-2; Romans 15:1-13 NIV
- What kind of Messiah, leader, Son of Man would he be?
Thought: the term, “Son of Man”
Note: Daniel 7:13-14 NASB (This is a reference to the Messiah)
-
- Luke 19:10 ESV “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
- Mark 2:28 ESV “So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
- John 5:27 ESV And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
- Matthew 26:64 ESV Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
“Son of Man” occurs 88 times in the N.T.
- Luke 12:8 ESV “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God,
- John 1:51 ESV And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you,[a] you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
All of these reference to Jesus the Messiah.
- Matthew 16:13-17 ESV Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
- Mark 14:61-62 ESV But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
Jesus was and is the hope for all mankind.
- His coming was our hope
- His life on Earth showed us hope
- His death, burial, and resurrection secured for us the hope of our eternal relationship with him
Jesus is still the hope for our world today.
