Mother’s Day
Hope! (our HELP!)
If we lose you, we lose the family.
- You are its heart and soul
- Find rest in God alone (vs. 5)
- To be silent
This is a complete surrender of who you are.
- And who you are must be established in God alone
“Find your rest in God alone”
- Elohim
- One who guides and cares for you
- Psalms 23
- “Your rod and your staff they comfort me”
Your soul is in need of rest.
- Strength comes from our soul
- A soul at rest will be rejuvenated, energized and at peace with itself.
David wrote: “My hope comes from him”
- Where does your hope come from?
- God is your rock, salvation, and fortress. You will not be shaken (vs. 6)
Having a strong foundation to stand upon will bring you health and deliverance.
“My fortress”
- An inaccessible place
- Altitude
- A place of defense
It is a place that you can go to where you will find the safety of God’s love and peace.
- “Not shaken”
- It is unmovable
- Unbending
- (vs. 7) Your honor depends on God.
God Most High is your salvation and your honor.
Observe what the Psalmist is saying here.
- My expectation
- My rock
- My salvation
- My glory
- My strength
- My refuge
- Might Rock
– of my strength
– strong
It is knowing God well enough that you feel confident in your relationship with him.
- (vs. 8) Trust in him
– Pour out your heart to him
Why? God is your refuge.
“At all times.”
- There is not a moment or a second in which the Lord is not to be trusted
- He is to be trusted in difficult times
- Good times
- Uncertain times
- Overwhelming times
- In our most deep, heartfelt, and unbelievable times
- God can be trusted to be there with you
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all of your heart.”
Verse 8 says to “Pour out your heart to him”
- The desires of your heart
- Complaints of your soul
- To plead your case before the LORD
Psalms 102:1-2 NIV Hear my prayer, Lord; let my cry for help come to you.
2 Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me;
when I call, answer me quickly.
Psalms 142:1-2 NIV I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. 2 I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble.
The Psalmist closes with, “For God is our refuge”
- A place of support and trust
- A home where you feel welcomed and safe
Conclusion
No matter what the world may think about God, for you, he is a place where you can find comfort, strength, encouragement, and hope.
It is not easy to be a mom today.
It is perhaps one of the most difficult, influential, emotional, time-consuming jobs on the planet.
For all that you go through on a daily basis, may you find God to be your refuge and strength.
